Buying a Home in Summer (What You Want To Know Wednesdays)

The home buying season is upon us! The warmer months are typically the time to buy. There are several open houses, and it’s easier to examine houses in the sunshine.  You also have a great opportunity to explore the neighborhood and imagine all of the summer BBQ’s you can have. Here are some tips to help you find your dream home:

  1. Examine your budget – Most importantly, take a look at your expenses and make sure that you can afford to be a homeowner.

  2. Prices may go down – Homes that were put on the market in spring and haven’t sold by summer may be re-listed at a cheaper price.

  3. Get to know the neighborhood - You want to make sure that you thoroughly explore the neighborhood and the community before you make an offer.

  4. Take a look at fixer-uppers – You may be able to knock money off of a purchase price if you look past cosmetic flaws that other’s could not.

  5. Get pre-approval - Not only will you know how much home you can afford, your offer will hold more value than an offer without pre-approval.
